Lifelike Dental Crowns, in a Single Day
If you have a damaged, weakened, or cosmetically compromised tooth, you may benefit from a dental crown. Crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that fit on top of damaged teeth, restoring both function and appearance. Dr. Randal Watson proudly offers same-day dental crowns using our in-office CEREC® machine. This system consistently produces durable, comfortable, and lifelike restorations. Additionally, your treatment will take place in a single visit with no need for temporary restorations. Learn more about same-day crowns by contacting our Austin, TX, dental practice.
The fabrication process typically takes 20 minutes to an hour, after which Dr. Watson can place your restoration.
What are Dental Crowns?
Crowns are made to match the shape and color of your nearby teeth. When you receive a crown, it will completely cover your damaged tooth, and can achieve a variety of effects. Most commonly, Dr. Watson uses crowns for restorative functions.
For example, crowns can hold together cracked teeth, strengthen weakened teeth, and cover cavities that are too large for fillings. They are also an integral part of root canal therapy. When set on top of dental implants, crowns can also replace missing teeth.
In some cases, Dr. Watson can also use crowns for cosmetic purposes, especially since we use virtually translucent dental porcelain. If you have a misshapen, worn, or intrinsically stained tooth, a crown may be an effective way to enhance your smile.
Same-day Crowns with CEREC® Technology
In almost all cases of crowns, Dr. Watson creates same-day dental crowns. However, he can also provide lab-fabricated restorations, if needed. To design and place your single-visit crown, he will first reshape your tooth. Through this process, he eliminates damaged tissue and creates a strong base for your crown. Dr. Watson will use an advanced air abrasion instrument for a minimal-discomfort treatment.
Utilizing our CEREC® imaging system, Dr. Watson will then create digital impressions of your tooth, and at a chairside computer, will design your custom restoration. Finally, our CEREC® milling machine will produce your crown. The fabrication process typically takes 20 minutes to an hour, after which Dr. Watson can place your restoration.
Advantages of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can restore your smile, as well as your ability to bite and chew. In some cases, they can also improve the force of your bite and reduce your risk for TMJ disorder.
While all crowns have these important benefits, CEREC® restorations offer additional advantages. First, of course, the entire treatment will take place in a single day. Second, your crown will be very realistic since CEREC® uses an advanced form of dental porcelain.
Thanks to its translucence, the material will sparkle just like your dental enamel. Finally, CEREC® restorations typically require less preparation to the tooth, and will adhere strongly to your tooth.
